As human beings, we have the power to shape our lives through the decisions we make. There are countless decisions that we make every day, but some have significantly more impact than others. Let’s explore three decisions that control your life and how to make them in a way that leads to positive change.
Decision 1: What are you going to focus on?
Our focus determines our reality. What we choose to focus on is what we feel whether it’s positive or negative. If you constantly focus on the negative aspects of your life or business, you will feel negative emotions that spill into your personal life and workplace. On the other hand, if you focus on the positive aspects of your life, your feelings of happiness and gratitude increase.
My recommendation? Train your mind to focus on the positive to create a shift in your perspective BUT there is one caveat: we cannot wish away negative feelings with positive mantras. If something is causing you to experience negative emotions frequently, what are those emotions trying to tell you? I generally find that they are pointing to something that is out of alignment in our life, either with our true desires or our values.
This brings us to the second daily decision.
Decision 2: What does it mean?
The second decision that controls your life is what things mean to you. We all experience the world through our own unique lens, and the meaning we assign to things greatly impacts our lives. For example, if you fail at something, you can either see it as a learning opportunity or as a failure. If you see it as a failure, you may feel down and discouraged. However, if you see it as a learning opportunity, you will feel empowered to try again and improve.
In the simplest terms, we get to choose how we feel, we get to determine what our emotions are trying to tell us, and we get to choose what is to be learned from our experiences! Another caveat here: if you don’t make changes, you will continue to experience the same feeling.
This brings us to the next daily decision.
Decision 3: What are you going to do about it?
Once you’ve chosen your focus and the meaning you give to things, it’s time to take action! Ask yourself what changes are necessary to create the life you want.
If you want to live a healthier lifestyle, what changes do you need to make?
If you want to build stronger relationships, what steps can you take to make that happen?
If you find yourself riddled with frustration, determine what is causing it and what changes you can make to ease the frustration.
If you find you’re just going through the motions each day and have lost your zest for life or your business, what changes are needed to bring back your passion and enthusiasm?
Without action, nothing changes! So, take intentional action to move you closer to the life you desire.
Don’t surrender control of your life to external circumstances or your internal emotions. Make intentional decisions about your focus, the meaning you assign to situations and thoughts, and take action to Elevate Your Life!™
