When triggered, we often speak before thinking.
We react instantly in the moment with little consideration of the full impact of our words and behavior. Over time, these reactions can become habitual, creating patterns within our relationships—and within ourselves.
I invite you to consider whether your default reactions are actually giving you the results you desire.
Are they causing damage to a relationship you value?
Are they impacting your health?
Are they prolonging situations that ultimately need resolution for you to feel at peace?

One simple but powerful practice is what I call the pause.
Instead of responding automatically, just STOP…
- S – Stop and remember to pause before responding.
- T – Take a few deep breaths. Notice the stimulus—the trigger—you just experienced, and assess the situation.
- O – Observe your present state. What emotions are you feeling? What thoughts are you having? Notice them without judgment.
- P – Proceed with awareness and choose how you want to respond.
A valuable reminder here: not every situation requires an immediate response.
We’ve been conditioned to react quickly in many areas of our lives, but in reality, taking a pause—sometimes a longer one—can completely change the outcome.
It gives you the space to understand what’s happening internally and decide how you actually want to show up.
Like anything, this takes practice.
Changing the habit of reacting begins with awareness, and over time, that awareness gives you more choice in how you respond.
