We all have dreams and desires.
The question is, how do we make them a reality?
Many people believe that the key to getting what you want in life is by hustling and being constantly busy. But what if I told you that it’s actually the opposite? Being frenetic and busy all the time is not the answer. Instead, a calm presence will achieve more of what you desire. Let’s dive into what I mean by that and the ways in which you can apply this mindset to your life.
To understand what frenetic energy is, think of all the times when you are rushing around stressed, manic, and filling every moment of your day with activities on your to-do list. Frenetic energy creates chaos and does not allow you to be fully connected with and engaged in the present. It’s fast and as such, it takes you out of full awareness of your surroundings thereby separating you from your true desires.
We tend to overschedule our activities (and our children’s) and, when we do, our focus becomes meeting the schedule rather than fulfilling the intention and desire associated with an activity. For example, we rush to get dressed for a party when we could have created even more anticipation and joy in our life had we fully savored the moment by allowing ourselves sufficient time to leisurely get ready and travel to our event location. Instead, we arrive feeling rushed and stressed and we forgot to bring the hostess gift.
A word frequently interchanged with frenetic is frantic.
Who wants to go through life frantically? Certainly not me.
Now, let’s talk about what a calm presence is.
A calm presence is a grounded state of awareness. It is intentional, thoughtful and considers what is happening instead of reacting without thought. It’s a state of observation, non-judgment, kindness, empathy, and intentional action. This state of mind is what allows you to be fully aligned with your desires and it helps you achieve what you want without losing yourself or the richness you desire in all areas of your life in the process. It contributes to the wholeness of being instead of separation.
So, how can you apply this mindset to your life?
Here are five steps you can take to cultivate a calm presence for achieving your desires (in addition to regaining control of your schedule of course!):
- Step 1: Start by setting your intentions for the day in the morning. Decide what’s important and worthy of your focus that day. Your priorities. And, remind yourself how the activities of your day actually relate to your desires. In other words, why they are important to you.
- Step 2: Find breathing and grounding techniques that work to provide you with a sense of calm and presence and learn to apply them.
- Step 3: Take small breaks throughout the day to check in with yourself to recalibrate and recenter your energy.
- Step 4: Practice mindfulness and be aware of your thoughts, feelings, and reactions throughout your day.
- Step 5: Surround yourself with people, places, and things that resonate with your energy and desires.
Achieving your desires isn’t about being frenetic and busy all the time. It’s about being intentional, thoughtful, and grounded in a calm presence. When you’re present, you’re more aligned with your desires, the things you want will come to you with more ease, and you exhibit your best self.
Remember, it’s not about striving to reach your desires with a sense of urgency, but rather bringing a sense of calm to your journey toward them and enjoying the whole process.
